A prayer for rebirth

Each of us has a different experience regarding our Spiritual Birth. Some can give the exact date and time when they accepted Jesus into their lives and were born again. Others cannot because for them there was no dramatic beginning of the new life. Now we can see through the examples in the Bible that even though most of the Christians in Corinth, Galatia, Sardis and Laodiocea had at one time started by living in the right way, many had lost their close relationship with Jesus. They had been side-tracked by false teachers, or died a spiritual death, through the lack of a correct spiritual diet.

The key question which we all should ask ourselves is: Are we still spiritually alive today?

Are we certain that Jesus Christ lives in us? In that case our faith must be manifested through, among other things, practical acts of love. Otherwise faith is dead even if it is hypothetically correct.

These were the type of test questions which the apostles gave their contemporary Christians, when these referred to their Jewish heritage, religious deeds or spiritual experiences. (2 Cor 13:5-13).

Do you lack a conviction of your salvation? In that case, do not waste time by digging into the past. Take the opportunity to "turn a new leaf" as soon as you have finished reading through this, by praying the prayer below.

Our heavenly Father!

I would right now, like to accept your offer, to come to you through your son Jesus Christ. I admit that I am a sinner, who through my selfishness have sinned against you in many ways.

That is why I turn to you Jesus.
Thank you for being willing to die for my sins.
Forgive me, and cleanse me from every sin.
Come into my heart right now, and bring your new birth to my life through your resurrection.
Write my name in the Book of Life, for I confess you to be my Lord and Saviour,
and I wish to follow you for the rest of my life.

Holy Spirit, let me feel the childlike joy of salvation
and help me to begin living the Christian life in your strength.

Three pieces of advice along the way:

Read your Bible every day

Pray that the Spirit makes that which you specifically need as spiritual nourishment come alive to you

Seek the fellowship of other Christians. You need their help as well in order to grow.

A prayer for guidance:

My heavenly Father

Thank you for letting me be your child, even if I feel a little bit lost right now, not knowing where I stand spiritually, or where I should go from here.

I thank You for the promises to us in the Bible. Thank you for promising that:
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you. "(Psalm 32:8).
If I should stray and get lost in spite of this you have also promised
"and you ears will hear a word behind you, "this is the way, walk in it" ...(Isiah 30:21)
Speak to me therefore, through your Holy Spirit who lives in me.
Give me new fresh thoughts, when I read your Word
Bring someone across my path who can support and guide me until such a time that I have
matured sufficiently to understand your instructions better than I do now.
I do know that this is your highest goal for us all. Amen.

A prayer for signs and wonders

In times of revival, when "prisoners are freed en masse," the Devil often becomes so enraged that he attempts to stir people up to persecute the Christian community. This happened even to the new Christian fellowship in Jerusalem. However they did not allow this to stop them. On the contrary they engaged in an open counterattack through the following collective prayer, that God should intervene and confirm their message, that Jesus is God's Son and the Saviour of the entire world.

"And now O Lord mark their threats, and enable thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness. Stretch out thy hand to heal , and cause signs and wonders to be done through the name of thy holy servant Jesus." When they had ended their prayer, the building where they were assembled rocked, and all were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:29-30).
